Free design exploration · Prepared for Akbay

A strong Filipino product deserves a storefront just as strong.

Akbay already has the foundations many growing brands are still trying to build: a recognizable multi-way product, years of production experience, thousands of customer reviews, practical pricing, and a distinctly Filipino story. The design opportunity is to make those strengths immediately visible and easier to buy into.

  • Multi-way design — tote, crossbody, and backpack in one bag
  • Approximately 2,300 customer reviews
  • Around 11 years of bag production
  • ₱1,698–₱2,750 practical price range

The value is there, but it is difficult to see

The current storefront asks customers to decode the brand.

On the current homepage, reviews, campaign messaging, product photography, trust badges, calls to action, and floating widgets compete for attention before a new visitor receives one simple answer: what makes an Akbay bag different? The content has accumulated over time, and the hierarchy no longer reflects the strength of the business.

Current Akbay homepage, mobile above-the-fold view
1

The differentiator is buried

“Three-way” appears inside a dense promotional composition instead of being explained through a clear product demonstration.

2

Everything asks for attention

Announcement, navigation, reviews, product imagery, sale tab, and chat widget compete in the same view.

3

The next step is unclear

The visitor has no obvious route based on work, travel, laptop fit, or carry style.

The friction follows the customer across the store

This is not one weak page. It is one interrupted customer journey.

A customer does not experience these pages as separate design files. They experience one continuous decision, and the same lack of hierarchy follows them from discovery through support.

Current mobile navigation menu open, listing many mixed link types

Discover

“Where should I start?”

Mobile navigation mixes products, sizes, materials, programs, brand pages, and policy links in one long menu.

Current collection page dominated by a review graphic above the product grid

Browse

“Which bags match my needs?”

The collection opens with a large review graphic, while product differences and buying guidance are not prioritized.

Current product page with a crowded purchase area

Decide

“Is this bag right for me?”

The product page combines price, wishlist, Add to Cart, Buy Now, an urgency timer, campaign artwork, and trust artwork in the purchase area.

Current About page

Believe

“Why should I choose Akbay?”

The About page has valuable history to tell, but the current composition does not yet provide a clear origin, philosophy, people, or production narrative.

Current Returns page

Get help

“What happens if something goes wrong?”

The Returns page is visually crowded by unrelated social content, and the support email domain requires urgent verification.

Every unclear step creates a measurable business cost

Better design means fewer reasons to hesitate.

The upgrade is designed to improve the conditions that support conversion: clearer discovery, faster product understanding, stronger reassurance, and more reliable store operations.

Unclear shopping paths

Customers take longer to find a relevant bag or leave without opening a product.

Measure: Collection-to-product click-through; mobile bounce rate; search usage

Product differences and fit information are buried

Customers hesitate because they cannot quickly judge suitability.

Measure: Product engagement; add-to-cart rate; comparison usage

Conflicting campaigns and unclear support details

Confidence falls at the moments when reassurance matters.

Measure: Conversion rate; returns/shipping support inquiries; checkout completion

Important copy is flattened into graphics

Mobile readability, search visibility, accessibility, and content reuse suffer together.

Measure: Organic landing-page engagement; accessibility issue count; mobile engagement

Routine updates depend on new graphics or code

Campaigns drift out of sync and the storefront becomes expensive to maintain.

Measure: Merchant self-service rate; update turnaround time; campaign consistency

Baseline analytics are still required before setting numerical targets. These are evidence-based improvement hypotheses with explicit measurement plans, not promised results.

Five visual directions, one clearer customer journey

Different expressions. The same stronger foundation.

Every proposed version solves the same underlying experience and content problems. Visual styling changes between versions; the strategic foundation does not.

  1. 01

    Lead with the product promise

“One bag. Three ways to carry your day.”

  2. 02

    Let customers shop by need

Work, travel, everyday use, laptop fit, and carry style.

  3. 03

    Make comparison easier

Consistent product data, product cards, filters, and a dedicated comparison view.

  4. 04

    Put reassurance beside the decision

Fit, payment, shipping, warranty, returns, and reviews close to Add to Cart.

  5. 05

    Give every section one job

Explain, demonstrate, compare, build trust, present, or request an action.

  6. 06

    Make content editable

Important copy becomes semantic page content instead of text baked into graphics.

The first screen should answer the first customer question.

The proposed screen does not remove Akbay’s story, reviews, promotions, or products. It gives them an order.

Current experience

Current Akbay homepage above-the-fold view, dense with reviews, promotional content, and competing calls to action
  1. 1Reviews and promotional content dominate the opening view.
  2. 2Shopping paths are not organized around customer needs.

Beyond the homepage

One connected experience—from discovery to support.

The value of the exploration is not one attractive homepage. It is a complete model for how Akbay can communicate, sell, tell its story, serve corporate buyers, and support customers consistently.

Our recommendation

v3 gives Akbay the clearest story only Akbay can own.

  • It turns Filipino identity and production heritage into visible differentiation.
  • Its warm palette and editorial typography create a more considered brand impression without pushing the products into luxury pricing territory.
  • It supports both emotional storytelling and practical ecommerce information.
  • It gives "Akbay"—an arm over a shoulder—a visual world that feels human, supportive, and locally grounded.

Safer alternative: Clean Minimal Utility

This is an internal design recommendation, not evidence of customer preference. Final selection should include stakeholder reaction and, if feasible, lightweight customer validation.

Beyond the visual direction

Choose the look. Keep the stronger system.

Whichever direction is chosen, production success depends on content, catalogue data, photography, Shopify structure, and quality assurance underneath it.

  1. 01

    Clear information architecture

Shopping links in the header; support, company, and legal content in the footer.

  2. 02

    Consistent product data

Use, carry modes, laptop fit, size, material, color, capacity, and availability.

  3. 03

    Reusable Shopify sections

Merchant-editable headlines, campaigns, featured products, trust claims, and imagery.

  4. 04

    Semantic, accessible content

Readable HTML text, clear headings, keyboard support, responsive behavior, and WCAG 2.2 AA targets.

  5. 05

    Controlled photography and media

Consistent ratios, purposeful product views, mobile crops, and performance-conscious loading.

One approved design system

Weeks 3–5

Finalize homepage, collection, PDP, navigation, footer, brand, support, and critical states

Weeks 5–9

Launch-ready storefront

Indicative — assumes timely Shopify access, content decisions, product-data availability, and a defined implementation owner.

All concept imagery is placeholder by design. Before production, Akbay must choose between a dedicated reshoot and a disciplined adaptation of existing assets. Photography quality will materially affect every direction—especially v3 and v4.

The decision for Akbay

Which direction should carry Akbay forward?

  1. 1Select the visual direction that feels most authentic to Akbay—or identify the two directions worth validating further.
  2. 2Confirm the brand facts, product data, policies, support details, and claims that the selected concept should use.
  3. 3Decide whether the next step is concept refinement only, lightweight customer feedback, or a separately scoped Shopify implementation.

The opportunity is not to replace what Akbay has built. It is to give that value a clearer, more confident digital expression.

Carry it your way.
